Every month, The Groundbreakers puts an inspiring initiative, product or company in the spotlight. By sharing knowledge and inspiration, we want to stimulate sustainable developments and we hope to contribute to the greening of the business community. This time we would like to highlight the Court of Cartesius in Utrecht. The Groundbreakers team was given a tour of this circularly built workplace. Finally, we did a workshop at the second-hand hardware store Buurman Utrecht. Justdiggit<\/strong> out. A non-profit committed to combating climate change by greening Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cooling down the planet<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The earth is warming up more and more rapidly and the consequences of this are becoming increasingly noticeable. Justdiggit believes it is high time to turn the tide and wants to ensure that the global temperature increase remains below 2\u00b0C. If we can warm up the earth, it is also possible to cool it down. Justdiggit's mission is to green Africa and thus cool the earth again. The organization's focus is in Africa because that is where they can achieve the greatest impact. The greening of the continent has a positive impact on nature, biodiversity and people around the world. The non-profit's dream is a green and cool Africa in 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nature based solutions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justdiggit combines traditional greening techniques with data, technology and communication. By applying nature-based solutions, they make dry, degraded land green again. Consider recognized greening techniques such as rainwater collection by digging bunds, returning trees and developing grass seed banks. The impact of these greening techniques so far has been enormous. More than 300,000 hectares of land are being intensively and extensively restored, 9.7 million trees have been brought back, 200,000 bunds have been dug and 291 million people have been reached with the awareness campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interactive fundraising experience<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last weekend, Justdiggit launched an innovative campaign to draw attention to the climate. An interactive fundraising experience literally got people moving to combat climate change. By moving, visitors could grow a digital tree on the interactive columns - after which 1 euro could be donated. Digital screens then showed the positive impact of this donation with a real-time thank you message. The Groundbreakers activated the campaign with a striking setting under the iconic Bollendak of Hoog Catharijne. Inspiring how Justdiggit comes up with concrete solutions and makes a positive impact on a large scale - we as a team are happy to contribute to this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
